This five day course in Garden painting allows plenty of time both to learn about and to practice painting gardens. You can work in a medium you are familiar with, or try something new- the tutor will help you decide what is best for you. The first day concentrates on introducing useful skills in the studio, with a gradual introduction to working from outdoor subjects. We aim for two full days out in some of the beautiful gardens of the area, using them as inspiration for sketching and painting. These alternate with studio sessions for painting development. In this course we will explore the particular colours in the late summer garden and seasonal accents such as fruits and grasses The course timetable runs from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon, with one free afternoon for you to explore the local area.. This is a studio and garden based course which introduces and practices skills which are useful in creating successful garden paintings. Subjects include sketching, tonal values and composition, negative painting and colour mixing. Students bring their preferred choice of painting medium. Individual advice is given on use of materials and watercolour or pastel skills.
